We believe in delivering top-tier care with compassion, precision, and urgency. Our board-certified surgeons are experienced in a wide range of oral surgical procedures, and we welcome patients from across NYC who need same-day or next-day treatment for urgent problems.

What Is Emergency Oral Surgery?

Emergency oral surgery refers to procedures performed on short notice to address pressing issues with the teeth, gums, jaw, or surrounding facial structure. These cases typically involve pain, discomfort, or disruption to daily activities such as eating or speaking.

Unlike routine dental work, emergency oral surgery is usually prompted by events that require immediate attention, whether it be injury, sudden onset of pain, or infection. Our practice is fully equipped to perform these procedures with the highest level of care.

Our Emergency Services Cover a Wide Range of Needs

We provide solutions for a variety of urgent conditions, each addressed with a tailored treatment approach. Common Emergency Oral Surgery Procedures Include:

1. Tooth Extractions

Sometimes a tooth is too damaged to remain in place, and can become rapidly painful or infected. We perform precise, gentle extractions using modern equipment and patient-centered techniques.

2. Impacted Tooth Treatment

Impacted teeth, especially third molars (wisdom teeth), can cause sudden pain, soreness, and sometimes infection. We offer same-day assessments and removals when needed.

3. Facial Bone or Jaw Injuries

In cases where the jaw or facial bones are affected, we provide surgical correction and stabilization to improve symmetry, bite, and function.

4. Oral Infections or Dental Abscess

When experiencing quick onset gum or even facial swelling, the cause is sometimes a problematic tooth causing a dental abscess. When this is the case, often the remedy is a small procedure called an incision and drainage to treat the abscess. This in involves numbing the area and making a small opening in the gums to drain the abscess of any pus. Depending on the situation, the offending tooth may be removed that day or at a later date.

5. Dental Trauma

Dental injuries can result in loosened or dislodged teeth. Teeth that become loosened or moved out of place from an injury may be able to be repositioned and stabilized to be given a chance to heal back in place. Dislodged teeth, when attended to within 2-3 hours after injury, can sometimes be replanted and stabilized (dislodged teeth are best kept in milk or saliva for transport). Badly damaged or fractured teeth may need to be removed. These are situations we can urgently treat at our office.

What Makes a Situation Urgent? What Makes a Situation Urgent?

Some oral health conditions are best treated without delay. not all situations require surgery, but emergency evaluation is valuable when:

  • A tooth becomes loose, damaged, or dislodged
  • Wisdom teeth begin causing discomfort
  • Rapid swelling of the gums or jaws/cheeks
  • A jawbone or bite issue suddenly appears
  • An unresolved dental concern starts impacting your daily routine
  • You experience sudden pain or difficulty opening or closing your mouth

Patients who prioritize care at the first sign of these issues often benefit from faster relief and smoother healing experiences.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of dental implants in New York City can vary depending on each patient’s individual needs. Factors such as the number of implants, any required preparatory procedures, and the type of restoration used all affect the total cost. The most accurate way to determine your treatment cost is by scheduling a consultation with a dental implant specialist.

Dental implants function as artificial tooth roots that are surgically placed into the jawbone. Over time, they bond with the surrounding bone through a natural process called osseointegration. Once healing is complete, a lifelike restoration—such as a crown, bridge, or denture—is attached to the implant to restore the visible part of the missing tooth.

Caring for dental implants is similar to caring for natural teeth. Maintaining good oral hygiene—such as regular brushing and flossing—along with routine dental checkups and cleanings, plays a key role in keeping implants healthy. It's also important to avoid habits that can cause physical damage, like teeth grinding or using teeth as tools, to help ensure the longevity of your dental implants.

Tooth loss can impact more than just the appearance of your smile. It may interfere with your ability to eat comfortably and maintain a balanced diet. Over time, surrounding teeth can shift out of place, leading to bite misalignment and discomfort. In addition, missing teeth can contribute to bone loss in the jaw, which may affect your facial structure and oral health overall.

The best candidates for dental implants are individuals in generally good health, with no signs of active gum disease. They should have sufficient bone density in the jaw to support the implant and should not smoke or use tobacco products, as these can interfere with healing. A thorough evaluation by a dental implant specialist is recommended to determine eligibility for treatment.

Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution for missing teeth, with the implant itself potentially lasting a lifetime if properly cared for. However, the crown—the visible part that resembles a natural tooth—may need to be replaced after 10 to 15 years due to normal wear and tear. The lifespan of a dental implant can vary based on factors like oral hygiene, lifestyle habits, underlying medical conditions, and regular dental visits. For best results, it's important to maintain good oral care and consult with a dental implant specialist for personalized guidance.

Whether dental implants are covered by insurance depends on your specific plan. Some dental insurance policies may offer partial coverage, while others exclude implants altogether or include strict limitations. In certain cases, coverage may only apply if the procedure is deemed medically necessary. To understand your options, it’s best to review your insurance policy or speak directly with your provider.
